El Grupo de Investigación GER (Green Engineering and Resources) del Departamento de Química e Ingeniería de Procesos y Recursos (QuIPRe) de la Universidad de Cantabria, convoca a través del COIE una preselección de candidatos para una oferta de empleo de personal investigador para el proyecto "Comportamiento ambiental de escorias de fundición, acería y ferroaleaciones para su valorización en diferentes aplicaciones", cuya investigadora principal es Dña. Ana Mª Andrés Payán.

 The student Eva Maria Castro has won the annual competition San Jose 2014 to the best Graduation Project 2012/2013 in the Industrial Technical Engineering specialty Industrial Chemistry studies. Eva Castro received the diploma on Friday 21 march, during the celebration of St. Joseph, patron of the E.T.S.I. Industrial and Telecommunications School of the University of Cantabria.

The project was presented and defended in September 2013 under the title “Application of Multicriteria Analysis (MCA) tool for recovering iron oxide from Electric Arc Furnace Steelmaking Slags". The work deals with aspects of decision-making during the application of technology in the field of industrial ecology; has been conducted in the GER Research Group of the Chemistry and Processes & Resources Engineering Department (QuIPRe), under the direction of Dr. Ana Andres and Ms. Elena Dosal.

Professor Javier Viguri has participated last 5-7 march, 2014 in Ph.D.Erasmus Mundus "Marine and Coastal Management (MACOMA)" and Master Erasmus Mundus “Water and Coastal Management (WACOMA)" with the course entitled "Waste water treatments and recycling industrial residues. Basis for sediments and dredged material management". The University of Cantabria is associate partner of these Programs since 2012 www2.uca.es. These dates, researchers from University of Cadiz and University of Cantabria, have participated in formative actions and in the intermediate Meeting of the CO2GS-EFFMET Coordinate Research Project (CTM 2011‐28437‐C02).

Dr. Alberto Coz started the February 26th, 2014 a short stay of two months at Aalto University, Finland, in the Department of Forest Products Technology, under supervision of Professor Herbert Sixta, leader of the Biorefineries Research Group. This short stay is developed under the Short Term Scientific Mission of the COST Action FP1205 ‘Innovative applications of regenerated wood cellulose fibres’. During his stay, he will study the main detoxification processes in an Integrated Forest Biorefinery in sulfite pulping mills. The obtained results will be very useful for the BRIGIT European Research project.

EL próximo jueves 20 de Febrero de 2014 se llevará a cabo una Jornada sobre modelado geo-químico de procesos de liberación de elementos de matrices sólidas. La Jornada se realiza en el marco de la actividad investigadora del Proyecto de Plan Nacional CTM 2011‐28437‐C02‐01, contando con la participación de 4 investigadores del grupo GER. La Jornada se desarrollará en la Sala de Reuniones del Departamento de Química e Ingeniería de Procesos y Recursos (QuIPRe) de la Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros Industriales y de Telecomunicación. Universidad de Cantabria. Santander (SPAIN).

Cristina Rueda Ruiz, Ph.D. student from Valorization of lignocellulosic waste in biofuels and bioproducts − BioValWas group, started the February 1st, 2014 a short stay of two months at Polytechnique de Montréal, in the Department of Chemical Engineering, under supervision of Professor Jean Paris and Dr. Mariya Marinova. During her stay she will develop a comparative study about different biorefinery options for kraft and sulfite pulping processes. The obtained results will be useful for the BRIGIT European Research project and her Doctoral Thesis.

Marie Curie position offered at Ecole des mines d´Albi (France)

 

Early Stage Researcher Fellowship / PhD studentship – Marie Curie Initial Training Network – IPROCOM (The Development of in silico process models for roll compaction) consortium (FP7-PEOPLE-2012-ITN, EC Programme). RAPSODEE Centre, Ecole des mines d'Albi (France) 

Position: Finite element modeling of forming process: application to roll compaction

Elegibility: Have a MScdegree and affinity with numerical simulation using finite element methods (see complete conditions in the PDF)

 

This offer comes from Lucia Pérez Gandarillas, who has started a similar Marie Curie research fellowship at RAPSODEE, centre of Excellence for Research in Particulate Solids, Energy and Environment, of the Graduate School of Engineering “Ecole des Mines d´Albi” (France), under supervision of Prof. A. Michrafy. Lucia Pérez developed during 2011 her MsC at the University of Cantabria under supervision of Dra. Ana Andres Payán.

Alberto Coz is participating in the18th Month Meeting of the BRIGIT European Project “New tailor-made biopolymers produced from lignocellulosic sugars waste for highly demanding fire-resistant applications'. BRIGIT aims to develop a cost-competitive and environmentally friendly continuous process to produce biopolymers (polyhydroxybutyrate, PHB, and succinate-based biopolyesters, PBS-Poly-Butylene-Succinate) from waste-derived lignocelullosic sugar feedstock liquor of wood sulphite pulping process. 16 partners from 11 countries participate in the project. The meeting is placed at the Agricultural University of Athens, Athens, Greece, from 22nd to 23rd, January, 2014.www.brigit-project.eu

"GER Research Group has participated actively in the Handbook of recycled concrete and demolition waste, recently published by Elsevier.

Our contribution in Part 1 of the Book considers techniques for managing construction and demolition waste, including the optimal location of waste recycling plants using multicriteria analysis decision.
