FEASIBILITY STUDY OF SULFATED POLYSACCHARIDE EXTRACTION AND CHARACTERIZATION FROM MARINE MACROALGAE BIOMASS: POLIEXTRALGA

On October 1st, 2018, the Project entitled “Feasibility of Sulfated Polysaccharide Extraction and Characterization from marine macroalgae: POLIEXTRALGA“ kicked off. The project, commissioned by Spanish biotech company INVESTALGA AHTI S.L. will have a duration of 8 months and will be developed by the GER group, with Dra. Tamara Llano Astuy as Researcher in charge. The main goal of this research project is to study the feasibility of sulfated polysaccharide extraction from marine macroalgae biomass analyzing parameters affecting the auto hydrolysis such as residence time or temperature, among others. Sulfated polysaccharide extracts will be characterized in terms of monosaccharides, uronic acids, molecular weight distribution, total sulfates and total ashes.
